Host: How do you inject insulin?

Kathy Reily: Insulin is injected in several different ways. We can inject insulin with a syringe pulling it out of a vial. We can also inject insulin with an Insulin Pen or we can inject insulin through an insulin pump type of setup, but insulin is injectable. It is a hormone and so we cannot put insulin in a pill. Hormones are made up of proteins and proteins digestion starts in the mouth with the salivary enzymes and continues through the digestive tract with digestive enzymes so that we can't put it in a pill. We have to put it in some injectable form.
