Speaker: Why do we need to read food labels?

Kathy Reily: If you are not able to figure out how much carbohydrate you are eating, you will never be able to figure out the affect of that particular food or meal on your blood sugar. Many people with diabetes focus a lot just on the blood sugar number; but with the number we like to put with that, what did you eat before that blood sugar number; what was your meal; what was your snack; what was the carbohydrate food in that particular meal and then finally, well, how much carbohydrate did you eat, so that we can see what caused that particular blood sugar.
