Transcripts
I am Sundar J.
M. Brown with Joe Diamond's Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The video segment you are about to see is entitled practical self defense. The moves are drawn from the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Now, despite the support of aspect of contemporary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Helio Gracie, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's founder, originally conceived of the art as something to be used as a full-fledged self-defense methodology. You are going to see the moves demonstrated at regular speed. Then we will break them down step by step for ease of understanding. I have over a decade of experience in the martial arts. I am currently a second degree purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Luiz Palhares and Joe Diamond. I am also a certified Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self defense instructor at Joe Diamond's Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Philadelphia. Now, there is no substitute for personal instruction. This video will not take the place of one on one teaching. So, we encourage you to find a local school and a certified instructor and enroll yourself in a self defense program. In the meantime, some important safety tips to remember. First, when you are training, watch the segment in full before attempting to practice any of the movements. Wear comfortable clothing and appropriate protective gear. Respect your training partner at all times. If you feel any pain or discomfort, immediately communicate this to your partner. Consult your position before performing any physical activity and make sure your training area is free of any hazards. Let us get started.
