Speaker: What causes relationship problems?

Gloria Macdonald: I believe, there are four main things that cause relationship problems. The first one is the inherit differences between men and women and women expecting men to be like us and non-understanding and getting frustrated when they are not and vice versa. Men expecting women to be like them, although generally speaking, it really is more women expecting men to be like us and then we get frustrated when they are not.

The second thing is people not taking responsibility for the relationship, whoever it is, whether it's the men or the women. Although, I believe that generally speaking, it's women who are responsible for making a relationship successful, but in either case, it's people not taking responsibility for the success of their relationship.

The third thing is knowing our mate versus understanding our mates; so often we feel like, oh, I know, what he is going to do or I can predict what she is going to say if I say this that or the other thing, but we do we truly understand our mates. So the third thing is not understanding our partners.

The fourth thing is going into relationship, knowing that quitting is not an option. One of the major things that causes divorce and breakup today is that we know subconsciously that if things don't go our away, if we don't like the way the things are going, we can't get out. So we really have to go into relationship knowing that quitting is not an option.
