Speaker: Sometimes it seems like men don't communicate at all. How do they communicate?
Gloria Macdonald: Sometimes it seems like men don't communicate at all to us, women; but the fact is, men communicates all the time, but they communicate it through their actions. Now, I don't mean this in any kind of derogatory way, but men are like dogs. Your dog communicates with you through his actions; think about this. Let's say you have a Golden Retriever. Does your Golden Retriever speak to you in English or French or German or Spanish? No, and yet somehow or other, you know your dog's language. You know when your dog wants to go out; you know when your dog wants his belly rubbed; you know when your dog wants to eat. You learn your dog communication skill and you don't get mad at your dog because your dog doesn't speak to you in your language. You learn how to communicate with your dog in your dog's language and you learned how to understand your dog.
If your dog chews on your rug, yes you're going to get upset with him, but you are not going to walk around and tell people your dog hates you because he chewed on your rug and for the next 20 years you are not going to be mad at your dog. You know what, sometimes dogs do that. So, why we do get so upset with men, when men don't communicate with us in our language, as women, as females? Why do we get so upset with men and start telling our girlfriends all about the horrible things that our husband or our boyfriend did when he was just being a guy, like maybe, he watch the football game on Sunday and you did not want him to. You wanted him to spend time with you and yet as women we might go on and on and on all about that.
When if you take it to thinking the analogy of the dog who chewed your carpet, you might get upset, but you accept, you know what, sometimes dogs do that and you don't hold it against your dog for life and you love your dog and your dog will be with you till the day he dies. So do you truly love your boyfriend or your spouse? If you did, you would learn to understand his style of communication and he would be with you until the day you died.
