Host: What you have to do to have a long-lasting, fulfilling relationship?

Gloria MacDonald: To have an incredible, lasting, fulfilling relationship first, you have to have a vision of what you want that relationship to be and then you have to have the discipline to turn that vision into reality. It is like having a vision of being a concert violinist but then saying but I am not going to practice. I am just going to walk out on the stage at Carnegie hall and I am going to be fantastic. It does not work that way. You have to be committed, you have to have the discipline, you have to practice, day in and day out for life if you are going to be that concert violinist and if you are going to create this work of art.

So, again, a relationship is like creating a work of art. It takes that occasion, it takes practice, it takes commitment. Imagine if you knew that there was no way out of this relationship that you had to stay in this relationship for the rest of your life. Well, if that were the case you would take a really different attitude towards this. You would try to turn things around and make things positive and you would not just say, "Oh well, if it does not work, I will suffer.

"You would not commit yourself to a life of suffering you would commit yourself hopefully, to a life of working together of joy, of commitment. Fortunately, I am not saying that any of us should stay in a relationship whether it is physical or mental abuse or anything like that, but today, so many of us just walk away from a relationship because things got stale, it was not exciting anymore, we were arguing over the kids and we do not have that discipline and dedication to keep this work of art alive and thriving and passionate. So, it does take discipline, but it can happen.
