Host: What if a couple's difference is a strong religious or cultural background? Gloria MacDonald: If you have a different religious background or maybe a different religious and cultural background an example of this might be two Americans, one has a Jewish background and one has a Christian background. These two people might look pretty much same, maybe a little bit different. For the most part, they are going to sound the same, they speak the same language they both speak English. So that's not a challenge. On the surface, it's going to look like they act the same.I mean they may have gone through the same school system. Lots and lots and lots of things that would be the same in their upbringing, but then there would be differences because of that religious/cultural background. There would be differences in the way they act. So for example, holidays what do you celebrate. Do you celebrate Hanukkah? Do you celebrate Christmas? Do you celebrate Passover? Do you celebrate Easter? These aren't simple things. They might sound like they are simple, but they are not simple things and then of course, they at the bottom most fundamental levels, they would have different ways in which they think. The Jewish person might have very strong cultural roots in terms of their heritage whereas the Christian person might not have that same sense of heritage because Christianity is really across a wide range of races and culture so it's not the same depth of heritage. So there would be different ways in which people think they are. So, on the surface there might seem to be a lot of similarities but the deeper you go into a relationship there will be differences and these differences will potentially bring up friction in relationship.
