Host: Is it important to have health insurance for everyone in the family?

Bob Hurley: I am confronted with families many times, I travel about the nation and I have talked to many of our customers and many of them are families and I will often hear from them, is it important for all of my children to have health insurance coverage, isn't it most important just to cover mom and dad because you know we are older and we may have things develop, health conditions develop, but my kids are typically, very healthy and they don't need to see a doctor? It's just so important that when you have a family that you get coverage for every family member.

Studies have shown over and over again that when you have health insurance coverage for your family you are more likely to get the kind of care that you need when you need it. You have a better tendency of not putting off care when you have health insurance because you know you have got a financial means to cover that. So it's absolutely important that you get coverage for every family member. The good news about it is for your children, health insurance coverage can typically be very affordable and we can talk about some ways that you can make it more affordable for yourself. Many families think that you have to go out and get one policy for the entire family and there maybe some advantages to doing that. However, if there are health conditions in your family that may make one of those children or maybe one of the spouses more expensive than others you may want to spilt that child or the spouse off on to their own policy and then insure everyone else on a family policy. So there are some ways you can actually get everyone covered at a price that you can better afford.
