Host: What is a healthy diet for a woman who wants to be pregnant? Dr. John Schmitt: Well, a healthy diet in a woman that wants to be pregnant really is a balanced diet. You should eat from all the food groups. You should not try to abstain from fats or abstain from carbs or any of these fat diets. You should eat a reasonable amount of calories and you should have lots of vegetables, fruits, roughage, protein, some fats, some complex carbohydrates and limit your calories to an amount you are not going to gain extensive amounts of weight or lose a bunch of weight, both of which might really affect your ability to conceive right away.
