Host: Is there any special footwear pregnant women should consider? Dr. John Schmitt: Well, I think that is a great question because it really as shoes are important for comfort in pregnancy. Your feet really do change in pregnancy and I think really low heeled shoes are important and loose fitting shoes to accommodate the swelling you are going to have is really, really important in pregnancy. I really think it's almost dangerous to wear high heels in pregnancy just because your balance is already off and your tendons and ligaments are a little bit more lax in pregnancy and the chance of spraining and getting a bad ankle sprain or something is really significant. So good, flat-heeled, comfortable shoes are really important I think.
