Senior Vice President of eHealthInsurance Bob Hurley suggests some ways for busy self-employed individuals to find health insurance at affordable prices.
Transcripts
Host: How can a self-employed person find affordable health insurance?
Bob Hurley: Today, there are so many more of us that are going on our own to develop the craft that we have always dreamed of. I run into independent reporters and writers all the time, independent video people, independent bike shop owners, that are self-employed and their dream was to own a bike shop and they have finally done it. Many of these people have absolutely no idea how to go about getting a health insurance. They don't know how to even compare health insurance plans. They don't know what it is going to cost.
The good news is the internet has solved a lot of that challenge for them because now all of these people and typically they are tech-savvy people, can come out to the internet. They can type health insurance in one of the search engines and typically end up with a number of sites including ours where they can learn about health insurance, they can compare health insurance plans from some of the leading health insurance companies in their specific market, they can see the pricing and then they can actually apply for health insurance right online and many of these people are typically very healthy, many of them are younger people and so their application process can often be done in a very short period of time, in fact, in some cases 24 hours.
So I would encourage you if you are in that category of being a self-employed person you don't have a lot of time typically because you are working so hard on your particular business, go out to the internet, you can shop in the convenience of your own time so to speak. A lot of people shop at 11 o'clock at night on our website and you can compare plans, you can learn a lot about health insurance, what you need to know and then you can actually buy right online and get that done late at night while you are not working on your particular area that you enjoy working in.
