Transcripts
Host: What are some affordable options?
Bob Hurley: Affordable options for employees of businesses that don't offer coverage are significant in most states. There are some states that are more affordable than others. But you need to assess what your own personal situation is for your healthcare or your family's situation. In other words, ask yourself how much do you go to the doctor? How often do you go to the doctor? How often does your spouse go to the doctor and your children and so on? So do a little personal assessment of yourself and your family members on how much they utilize or seek care?
Then based on that you can narrow down your choices of insurance plans because you may want to buy an insurance plan that offers you $15 or $20 co-payment to go to see the doctor because that's important to you. If you don't go to the doctor a lot then you may not want to get that kind of benefit because you are going to be paying for that in your monthly premium. So you may want to actually go with a higher deductible health insurance plan where you buy $1,000 or $1,500 deductible and when you go to the Physician one or two times a year you pay for that out of your pocket. But meanwhile, you are saving hundreds of dollar on your monthly premium by going with a higher deductible plan. So how to choose your plan starts with a little self assessment. What do you need? How much do you access care? How much does your family access care? Once you answer those questions it's going to help your shopping experience once you get to the internet.
