Robin Shudak: Hi, I am Robin Shudak, an instructor at Sn Mountain. Today's lesson is how to teach your child to ski. Now in case you are wondering; this lesson that I did right here with Cassidy pretty much mirrors the PSIA or Professional Ski Instructors of America level one lesson; it is a lesson that they give to children who have never skied before and it teaches them the fundamentals. It really, really stresses safety in making sure that they can stop. If you do go through a lesson your child will get a report card just like this at the end which will tell you how they did. This can be used for future lessons and to track your child's progress. So this concludes today's lesson on teaching your child to ski. We hope you have got a good understanding of the fundamentals of introductory skiing from clothing and equipment to basic movements. Obviously, the next step will be to take your child up on the lift. However, PSIA strongly recommends making sure your child can stop before they go up. In fact, ski areas have minimum ages for riding the lift alone. So it is good to check with the ticket counter. In closing, another word about safety, it is your responsibility to make sure your child stays safe on the slopes and learns to ski in control. But it is not as hard as it seems. Most resorts have safe places for beginners to practice and even offer beginner packages that include lift tickets, rentals and lessons.
