Hi, I am Mitch Baker with American Plant Food. Now we are going to complete the backfilling of the new planting area. Weve partially backfilled it and weve added our biostimulant, now were going to use the rest of this amended soil to create this nice mounted planting area. So, were not getting rid of any soil, were going to use it all. You want to just firm this in. We are not trying to compact it, we are just firming the soil in so that we dont get excess settling, but we are not compacting it. Then all this additional soil gets feathered out around the planting area. Notice, were not putting any soil on top of the root ball, that creates an artificial grade, we dont want to do that. We want to bring the soil up to the top of the root ball, but not over the top of the root ball. So, the end result now should be a slightly raised mounted planting area that feathers out quite a bit from the actual planting hole. This will allow for some settling. It will allow for moisture; rain, water, to infiltrate into the soil regularly. Thats the idea, we dont want to pack that soil back in there and prevent moisture from getting into the soil. So, now we have our tree in its new home, properly planted at the proper depth. The next step is to mulch the tree to protect the tree.
