Jason: Hi! My name is Jason from Revolution Cycles.

Before you lubricate your chain, you want to clean the chain as best as possible; this will keep it running as smoothly as possible. The easiest way to do that is with some type of rag or brush. In this instance, I have a clean rag here and cleaning agent of choice, and most shops will have a plethora of cleaning agents to choose from. In particular, we want to concentrate on is a biodegradable nontoxic substance, so you dont hurt your skin or the environment in using the product. What you want to do is just apply the product to the chain itself. This is a foaming cleaning agent; you just apply it just like this. Then you can grab the chain with your hand, wrap the rag around it, and like you are doing when you are lubricating the chain, just backwards pedal through the rag, and continue to do this until all the debris and excess lubricant, whatever is on the chain has been cleaned off. You can grab the outsides of the chain as well as the insides with the rag and it does a really good job of getting all the debris off the chain before you apply a lubricant. And just continue to do this until all visible dirt is off the chain.
