Jeff: Hi! I am Jeff, I am a mechanic at Revolution Cycles.
Today I am going to show you how to take your rear wheel off; this is really important in case you ever get a flat on the road, and there are a few vital steps that you need to go through.
The first step is to make sure that you are in the smallest cog on the rear cassette; this will help in terms of getting the wheel off the chain. So, I am going to shift it all the way down, and you also have to make sure that you are pedaling while you do this.
So, once youve already got the chain onto the smallest cog, what you want to do next is release the brake - and by doing this on this particular model, which is called the Linear Brake System, you want to pull on the noodle until the cable goes through the bridge on the brake arm. And once thats released, you will be able to remove the wheel. So, this is an alternate brake style; this is called a Road Brake Caliper, featured mostly on racing bikes and road bikes. So, the way that you disconnect this brake set is just by pulling on this cantilever, and then that opens the brake up, so that its wide enough that the tire will just slip out.
So, this is another style of brakes; this is called a Cantilever Brake and basically what you do is, you pull the brake calipers together and you slip out the non-mounted side, and thats how you loosen the brake on the cantilever.
The last step you want to do is, to pull on the quick release lever. Just take it directly out until you see, it says, Open. And after that you can remove the wheel by pulling on the rear derailleur and popping it out just like that.
