Host: Should I guess on the SAT?
Laura Rheinauer: I don't encourage guessing on the SAT. Random guessing is not going to increase your score. In fact, it will probably decrease your score. I have definitely heard the stories of kids that will go a, b, c, d or start making words b, a, d and that's not going to increase your score, I promise you. If you can make a good educated guess now and down the answer choices, knowing for certain, it's definitely not this one, definitely not that one, go ahead and make an educated guess. The only instance where random guessing could potentially help you would be in the grid-in section doing the math free response. No points are ever deducted if you get a wrong answer. So I do encourage you to at least put something down. But no, random guessing won't help you out.
