Host: What is the difference between internal and external causes of stress?
Dava Money: External causes of stress are easy to see. They are events that we may choose or not choose, but they are coming from outside of us in the form of change in our daily life, at our work, in our family etcetera and internal stress is a little bit more difficult to see but it's probably the greatest cause of chronic stress and that is our perception of events. We are ultimately in control of our perception of events but we haven't learned how to use that well.

An example being if we are late for work or late to get somewhere and we begin to stress about that then we are going to stress every single red light personally and with great difficulty. Whereas if we go ahead and accept that okay, I am few minutes late, I'll get there when I get there, the red light doesn't matter any longer.
