Host: How do I improve the way that I think?

Dava Money: We can improve the way that we think. It is ultimately a very powerful way to change ourselves and our lives. The first thing that we need to do is just to observe our thinking to become familiar with it. Our thoughts are so fast that we don't pay attention to many of them.

So for the first couple of weeks, you simply want to notice what a thought is, how often it occurs and to notice that without judgment that's the tricky part. So when you judge yourself or judging yourself, just notice that also and let it be. After you have become familiar with your thinking then you can stop a thought that's no longer serving you and replace it with something that will serve you better. An example is, if you feel like your boss is always on your back, notice the thoughts you have about that and then also begin to notice how your boss treats other people and you may find that you are personalizing that, that your boss treats everyone poorly. So you may want to change your thought to my own self-esteem is not dependent on someone else's opinion of me. That takes practice but again as you change your thoughts and practice those, you will change the way you view yourself and the way you view the world.
