My name is Patrick McGuire. I am the Assistant Director of Instruction at the Chuck Will Golf Academy. Today I am going to be showing you a drill that will help you use your stomach and your hips for power and more consistency while maintaining a good posture through impact. This drill is basically a deceleration drill and you have to recruit from the bigger muscles in your stomach to hit this shot. The goal of this drill is to hit the ball at full speed and then retract your arm and the club in the opposite direction. Let me go ahead and show you how that works. I am just going to take my basic my setup, not to worried about where I in, but just trying to pretty square. I am going to take a full swing and then try to pull the club back. The things that I am concentrating on during that drill is keeping my weight after I hit the ball forward and moving only my upper body back. What thats doing is creating an X factor or a separation between how much my hips turn and how much my upper body turns. The most common fault we see is the shoulders rotate faster than the hips or before the hips, so this drill might even help you get the club down or more to the inside. Again to show you that drill I am going to go through with it a little slower, so I am hitting the ball, immediately I am pulling this back. The better you get at it, the easier the drill gets, but again, you will feel it in your stomach when you do it right.
