Host: Are there any particular types of flowers that are very expensive?
Gerry Rogers: I find that flowers really fall into three general categories, price wise in planning for your wedding. On the lowest level there are things like Carnations, Alstroemeria, some of the flowers that you are really accustomed to seeing at the grocery store. Those also are very often used in weddings. In the middle range are great number of flowers. There are roses, some of the year around garden flowers, like Stock or Snapdragon, some varieties of orchid. These are all pretty mid range and you will have a great deal of flexibility in terms of the kinds of flowers, you will use for your wedding if you are using this middle ground of flowers. But there are as many people know, some flowers that are very expensive. Cala Lilies, for example are fairly expensive flowers, they can be roughly half the size of a rose, but three times the cost. So, in addition to the cost per stem, you are also dealing with the flower, that just doesn't take up a lot of room. Also some of the more exotic variety of orchids like Lady's Slipper or Cattleya or Phalaenopsis orchid, those can be very expensive, but on the other hand the Macara and Dendrobium orchids are very cost effective.
