Host: What is the appropriate way to brake?

David Rizzo: Gently, in fact you can save maybe 2-3% of your gas economy just by coasting at the stop signs. Lot of people want to race up to the next red light, that's a waste of energy just coast. In fact so great is that energy that hybrids use Regenerative Braking Systems to capture it. Now if you are driving a hybrid, okay you have a little leeway to go a little faster up to the stop sign, but for the rest of us the other 95% coast up to the signs. You can get a lot better gas mileage.
