Host: What are the SUVs with the best gas mileage?

David Rizzo: SUVs have the same considerations as cars and trucks. In other words start with a smaller engine, four cylinder verses an eight. Hybrids in SUVs are still the mileage champs and also you want to go with a two wheel drive SUV.

All things considered again the hybrids took the five top spots on the EPA's list of Gas Mileage Champs. Number one was the Ford Escape hybrid, 31 miles per gallon in the city, 29 on the highway and like I said remember with hybrids, they usually do better in the city than on the highway. Number two was the Mercury Mariner hybrid, also a good champ, 28, 27. 28 city, 27 highway. The Lexus RX-400, a nice popular car, top five. Toyota Highlander hybrid, also another fuel efficient SUV. The Saturn Vue is also the fifth hybrid on that list.

Now we start getting into gas SUVs and heading that list is the Jeep Compass and also Jeep Patriot, Jeeps are popular products. Chevrolet HHR, you know that old retro looking truck, also very gas thrifty, 21 city, 28 highway, again we are talking about a gas engine here. The Ford Escape and the Toyota RAV4 round out the Top-10.
