Yolanda Holmes: Hello, I am Yolanda Holmes, a Board Certified Dermatologist at downtown Washington, DC. We are going to now talk about a procedure called Microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion is a procedure that uses high pressure crystals to abrade the skin. Abrading the skin results in exfoliation, giving the skin a smother, clearer appearance. Microdermabrasion is preformed by using a hand piece which goes over the skin two to three times. With the skin being exfoliated, it also stimulates collagen production by the dermis so fine lines and wrinkles are less visible. Microdermabrasion can be used to treat acne, superficial scarring, dark spots, sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles. There are a few or no complications. Home Microdermabrasion kits are available. However, better results are seen when utilizing a professional. We have just discussed how to properly care for and protect your skin. By following these steps you will have beautiful, healthy skin with a wonderful glow. Thank you.
