How to Thread a Bobbin

<p>Beth Bates: Hi, I am Beth Bates with sewteacher.</p><p>com. Today, we are learning how to use your sewing machine. In this clip, we are going to talk about winding the bobbin. Before we begin, please be sure to follow the diagram that came with the instructions with your particular sewing machine. There maybe a little bit of a variance. However, most sewing machine are fairly similar and you should be able to follow along.</p><p>Another important thing is be sure to use the bobbins that came with your sewing machine or match them exactly if you are going to buy them in a store. You don't want to switch out with other sewing machine that can throw your timing off. So let's go ahead and get started.</p><p>I am going to turn the machine so you can see the back and you get your spool of thread and you need to have, get it on the stick there. The thread need to be unwinding this way, not that way behind it, but actually, in front of it and you come around and you place it through this hook, I am going to turn the machine. Often times, I will have you just go around it once, but I like to -- let's twist it around like that. Put your bobbin in there. Okay and make sure that you have a tag showing right here. I am going to turn the machine.</p><p>In my particular machine and probably yours as well, you need to pull this out. So when you push the pedals, the needle isn't going up and down, just the engine will run. Okay, a little bit over. Next step is to hold this and you can follow it. Okay, use your scissors or snips.</p><p>, snip it, slide it off. Now let's put it in the casing and I am going to turn the machine so that you can see it, down here you hold this. It's sort of like a little handle, pull it, you take your bobbin, have a nice tail, insert it in there and if you can see there is a slight slit right there, put it through the slit, bring it around so it's in there. You should be able to pull it, it shouldn't move freely. Have a nice long tail. If you note down here you will see a little groove that's where this handle is going to go and we are going to take it and if you hear a click, this tail should be hanging out because next, we are going to go ahead and thread your sewing machine and we will have the needle come down and catch this and bring it up through the top.</p>
