Stefan Hauswald: Hi, my name is Stefan Hauswald, I am here at State of Confusion Skatepark and I am going to give you some tips on how to paint aerosol graffiti art. First, you have to get started with the sketch, the sketch is important because you need it in order to transfer your art from the paper onto the wall. Some common flaws and letter forms is over analyzing the letters and making them non-symmetrical. The first flaw that amateur usually do is they try to over analyze the letter and twist it and turn it all different ways, but it has no flow to it and it just doesn't visually look pleasing.

The most important thing to remember about your sketch is to give it flow on both sides and make it symmetrical. That's at least my trick. Everyone approaches their artwork in a different way, some approach into more abstract way and some approach into more what graffiti writers call a straight letter way. For the O on the How2, which I will be painting today, I substituted the O for a monkey's face just to give it a little bit of flavor.

Your sketch could change from here, once you put it on to the wall depending on your space. So your sketch isn't always definitely what you are going to do. This is slightly different than what you will probably see as my final result that's only because my space is different than when I am at home sketching on my sketchbook. So I usually color in my sketches, but the color in the sketch doesn't always necessarily have to be what your fill is going to be or the colors, it's just to give you an idea what you want to do.

This is a little bit about sketching your graffiti art idea, now let's get started.
