Amy Stewart: Hi! I am Amy Stewart, and in this segment I am going to tell you the most effective way to water you herbs.

Now, I have told you before, the best place for the Italian herb garden is the sunniest spot in your house, or on your deck, or in your yard where you have the ability to keep your herbs safe from pests and stuff like that and wild animals. Water is going to be one of the most important ingredients. Weve already done our part to make sure we have plenty of great drainage. Weve done our part to make sure that the soil is as nutritious as it can be possibly be for the herbs that are growing in it, but now we need to make sure that we dont kill them with water.

So, I have a watering jug and in this case these plants have never been watered in these containers. So, I am going to go ahead and water them, and I am going to give you my very-best tip for how not to kill these things with water as we go.

So, first well do our sprout, and I am just going to give him kind of just some gentle water. You can always go back and water more so you dont have to feel that you have to drown them the first time, and then the other thing that I will show you is the very-best times of the day to water your plants are first thing in the morning before the Sun gets really hot, and in the evening after the Sun has started to go down, and the reason for this is that particularly with some of the more delicate-leaved plants if you water this thing in the heat of the Sun, in the sunniest spot of your house or in your garden, the leaves will basically fry. So, you dont want to start cooking your herbs before you get them to the kitchen, and that is the very-best tip I have for how to keep your herbs alive with water.
