How is the GMAT scored?
Host: How is the GMAT scored?
Jeff Glazer: Because the GMAT is on the computer, its scored using adaptive algorithm where depending not only on the number of questions you get right or wrong but which questions you get right or wrong will ultimately determine your score, the two essays you take at the beginning are actually scored by both human and computer programs that score you want to scale on 0 to 6 which does not affect your final 200 to 800 score which is completely determined by your performance on the quantitative and the verbal section. Generally speaking earlier questions are worth more and harder questions will generate a higher score as well. So, again its not the number of questions you get right but also which questions, if you get harder questions correct you get a higher score, if you get harder questions wrong in the beginning it will drop you down and you will be starting to get asked easier questions.

The math and the verbal are scored separately but then put together to generate your 200 to 800 composite score.
