Scotty Kilmer started working as a mechanic in his father’s Texaco gas station at the tender age of 14 (making it 39 years that he's been wrenching so far.) His grandfather, a master mechanic, was his mentor ( a regular Abe Lincoln Story. ) In between getting a Masters Degree from the University of Illinois, and working as a mechanic in the summer, Scotty kept his mind clean while his hands stayed dirty.

Moving to Houston in 1979, Scotty started his own car repair business. Getting married and having two sons kept him busy for years, but eventually Scotty became restless. So he wrote his book, Everyone’s Guide To Buying A Used Car, in 1994. This lead to his becoming the "Crank It Up" car talk host at CBS TV in Houston.

After ten years of being a car talk host, Scotty started looking for yet another challenge. He began living on the internet, answering questions and providing streaming video on his Belo Crank It Up Newsletter for which he won an Emmy for Interactive Car Talk Host in 2004. In 2006, the Houston Press named Scotty favorite TV personality in Houston. And also in 2006, Ken Hoffman named Scotty as a "guilty pleasure" of Houston media.

Scotty's always helping people out with their car care problems, making the seemingly incomprehensible complexity of modern cars easy to understand for everyone. His combination of mechanical knowledge, truthfulness, and humor makes him a natural hit with the driving public.
