Butch Arbin: Hi! I am Captain Butch Arbin with the Ocean City, Maryland, Beach Patrol. We are talking about how to have a safe and enjoyable day at the beach. This clip is about what medications you need to pre-plan to bring with you.

If you or anyone in your party has a medical condition that requires medication during the time here at the beach or if anyone has a condition that may result in then needing immediate medication, you need to pre-plan and have that with you.

Examples might be, if you have a person with severe allergies an EpiPen, in case, they go into anaphylactic shock. A person with a heart condition may need to have their nitro pills. A person who is asthmatic, may need to have an inhaler or a diabetic may need to have certain medications. Also, if anyone in your parties is on a medication that create sun sensitivity, you need to be aware of that. Certain medications make the body more susceptible to sunburn and you need to be aware and take caution against that.

When you are on the beach with the party, make sure everyone in the party knows about medical conditions. They know about medical history of the individuals in the party and they know where the medications are located and how to administer them. If you bring these medications with you, you should lead to a safe and enjoyable day at the beach. If an emergency arises, remember seek help from the lifeguard so that you can have a safe day at the beach.
