Butch Arbin: Hi! I am captain Butch Arbin with the Ocean City, Maryland, Beach Patrol. We are talking about how to have a safe and enjoyable day at the beach. This clip is about leaving trash on the beach, take it with you, don t leave anything behind. We have a saying here that the only thing you should leave behind are your footprints and we mean that.
If you brought it to the beach, take it with you. If it s trash, pack it up, take it with you. If there is a trash receptacle, place it there. We talk about trash, we are talking about everything, leftover apple cores, food dips, packaging, whatever it is, it does not belong on the beach, it did not occur here naturally.
For those who choose to smoke at the beach, even the cigarettes butts as small they are, create a real hazard. Small children digging in the sand are often found with those in their mouth. Again, please take those with you, get rid of them, and dispose them properly. The beach is a clean place and we want to keep it that way. If you leave your things behind, may be somebody else will pick them up, but somebody else shouldn t have to.
The next family that comes after you, they want to have a safe and enjoyable day at the beach and your trash is going to hurt that. So again, leave nothing on the beach other than your footprints. Dispose your trash properly or take it with you.
Our next clip is going to be about checking landmarks, so that you know where you are on the beach and you can tell your party if anyone gets lost.
